Fishing with a pro

My Mom wash a fishing fanatic. She didn't get to go often but when she did she took full advantage. When we were young we would ask to go and she would tell us to be back in 2 hrs. because she was fixing dinner: we were always late and got a cold plate, no microwaves back then. As a teen we would tell her we were going and get a sad look or a I'm going with you. You had to pull down your hat, tighten your belt and prepare to fish when Mom went along. I mean really fish hard, pull out all the stops, or she would come home with all the bragging rights! Hot leftovers that night, microwaves had been invented and we had one. When I was a young adult we lived miles apart and I worked all the time. Didn't fish much but when I did I would call her and tell her about my catch and get the "OH I WISH I WAS THERE". Her guilt trip routine! My wife fixed dinner. Later in life it was time to teach kids to fish. TIE on your own hook, BAIT your own hook,CAST your own line,SET your own hook, they had the reeling part down,TAKE your fish of the hook, QUIT playing on the bank,PUT your fish on the stringer. Needless to say I didn't get to fish much, had to save my energy, LOAD up all the gear, CLEAN all the fish, FEED the hogs, GET the cooker out, FIND the grease, COOK the fish, we all had the eating part down, CLEAN up, and I would take a nap.(my wife really cleaned up) Sometimes we took the time to get Mom. You would think she would help her poor son with her grandkids schooling. Oh no, she just laughed and FISHED. Hence I had plenty to clean and we all had plenty to eat!(no need for freezer bags)remember, we all had the eating part down. AS the years passed I'd get to missing the old girl and take off work early(not really, just left at quitin time) call Mom and she if she felt like fishing on my way to pick her up, she never said no. Well, my years of expirence really paid off, SET Moms chair up in a suitable place, CARRY her from truck to chair, UNLOAD gear, BAIT her hook, CAST her bait, she never fogot to reel or set the hook, TAKE fish off hook, PUT fish on stringer, REPEAT,REPEAT. She just laughed and fished! Then oxygen entered Moms life. Fire off her reel might have blown us all up. Cell phones entered my life. Fishing via cell phone with grandkids is a challenge, no Mom he can't cast yet, yes he can reel, sets hook sometimes, hold on mom FISH ON, yes Mom he got it in, bass Mom about three pounds, hang on Mom gotta get line back in water, no Mom he can't cast yet, he's only 3, no Mom I ain't caught anything yet, well Mom it's kinda hard to fish with you and your great grand kids, gotta go MOM FISH ON. IT's odd how many times she wouldn't go when all I had was time. Then she wanted to go and I didn't make time nearly often enough. Now time has stopped.
